Course Description:

Certification opportunity: Texas Cosmetology Operators License

Cosmetology is a two-year program intended for students who are serious about obtaining their Texas Cosmetology Commission State Operator License. Students must be taught by a licensed Cosmetology teacher daily in order to gain credit with TDLR.  Classroom instruction includes sterilization and sanitation processes, chemical principles involved in the use of hair and beauty products, shampooing, hair cutting and styling, coloring, permanent waving, and manicuring. Students must complete and pass 27 credits in the Cosmetology program before being eligible to sit for their exam; therefore, good attendance is mandatory.  For certifications, each student is expected to pass a theory and practical  exam to obtain their license at the end of the second year, before graduation.

The additional class day is to account for the possibility that the student may not have a class scheduled at the CTC the following day after their absence. Example: If a student is absent on Monday, he/she will have until Wednesday to get their missing work and then must have it turned in by Friday. Also, make up work modules may be assigned  as needed.

Re-Take Policy:

Due to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s requirements for candidates to pass exams for licensing, the AISD Cosmetology Department will allow students only one opportunity to  re-take a TEST, as to accurately depict mastery of the content.
