COURSE GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate equipment safety checks; identify Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) equipment parts, and demonstrate the procedures for welding various joints in various positions.
Learning outcomes are linked to SCANS requirements. Specific SCANS requirements are linked to the class schedule.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of safety in the welding station by
a. describing burns caused by the welding arc (1a, 1b, 2a);
b. demonstrating operation of welding equipment safety (1a, 1b, 2a, 2d, 2e);
c. describing proper clothing for welding safety (1a, 1b, 2a).
2. Choose correct filler electrode by
a. identifying filler metal electrodes to AWS filler metal number system (1a, 1b, 2a, 2e);
b. demonstrating selection of electrode size for 5 types of welded joints and metal thickness (1a, 1b, 2a, 2e).
3. Demonstrate the ability to set up and apply the theory of oxygen/acetylene cutting system by
a. performing safety inspection of manual OFC equipment and accessories (1a, 1b, 2a, 2e);
b. demonstrating safe method of handling and storing cylinders (1a, 1b, 2a, 2e);
c. explaining selection of cutting tips sizes (1a, 1b, 2a);
d. demonstrating setup and manual cutting of straight and bevel edges (1a, 1b, 2a, 2d, 2e);
e. making minor external repairs to mechanize OFC equipment and accessories (1a, 1b, 2a, 2d, 2e);
f. demonstrating bevel cutting of pipe with pipe beveling machine (1a, 1b, 2a, 2d, 2e).

c. selecting correct wire speed for flux cored welding electrode (1a, 1b, 2a);
d. demonstrating correct electrode stick out (1a, 1b, 2a, 2e).
5. Perform v-groove welded joints with the FCAW process by
a. passing welder performance qualification test in the 1G position (1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e);
b. passing welder qualification tests in the 2G, 3G, and 4G position on carbon steel plate (1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e).
6. Demonstrate an understanding of types of preheat and post heat by
a. identifying preheat (1a, 1b, 2e);
b. identifying inter-pass temperature (1a, 1b, 2e);
c. identifying post weld heat treatments (1a, 1b, 2e);
d. identifying hold points (1a, 1b, 2e).
COURSE ASSESSMENT
Student success is measured by a variety of assessment techniques aligned with course goals and learning outcomes. Individual faculty members are responsible for designing evaluation instruments to measure student mastery of course goals and learning outcomes and indicating the nature of such evaluation instruments in the instructor’s class requirements.
STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY RESOURCES
Any student with a documented disability needing academic accommodations is required to contact the Student Accessibility Resources (SAR) Office located on each campus to schedule an appointment with the Coordinator of SAR. All discussions are confidential. Because SAR accommodations may require early planning and are not provided retroactively, students are encouraged to contact SAR as early in the semester as possible. SAR is responsible for approving and coordinating all disability-related services. TCC professors will honor requests for accommodation when they are issued by SAR.
SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY
Students are responsible for adhering to the TCCD policy on scholastic dishonesty as stated in the online student handbook at www.tccd.edu.
