Classroom Rules and Procedures

Health Science Theory and Lab

Procedures for entering the classroom.

  1. Enter quietly.
  2. Come with all supplies READY.
  3. Know your class color (Red Team, Blue Team or Green Team).
  4. Cell phones are NOT allowed in the classroom or lab! Cell phones will be placed in the designated cell phone area in the classroom immediately upon entry into the class. Cell phones will be released back to you on breaks, lunch and at the end of class.  Your ringer must be turned OFF when stowing your cell phone.  Any violation of the cell phone policy will result in confiscation of the cell phone and turn in to the front office.
  5. Upon entering the class, find the DEFIBRILLATOR (Bell Work) on the board or the overhead video and begin working on it. You will have 10 minutes after the start time for the class to turn in your bell work.  Turn in your bell work in the correct folder that corresponds to your team color.   Bell work may or may not be counted for a grade.  Bell work turned in AFTER 10 minutes will have 15 points counted off.

NOTE: During online instruction, your DEFIBRILLATOR will be posted to Canvas

If you are late.

  1. You are late if you enter the class AFTER the class’ start time.
  2. Quietly join the activity that is in progress.
  3. Turn in your defibrillator (bell work) before time is up. Being late will not excuse you from meeting the turn-in time.

If you are absent.

  1. It is your responsibility to make-up any assignments or tests in a timely manner.
  2. If you are absent, you need to email me at hmccorve@aisd.net to check for assignments or log onto Canvas.
  3. If you have an excused absence, you will have the number of days you were absent plus one additional day to make up all of the assignments you missed.

Turning in Assignments

  1. All classroom work will have your NAME, STUDENT ID, DATE and CLASS PERIOD.
  2. The student will mark a COLORED X or dot in the upper right-hand corner of all written assignments, quizzes and tests. The dot or X will be your class color.
  3. Turn all assignments into the correct color folder/notebook for your class.
  4. If you finish early, return to your seat quietly. DO NOT DISTURB OTHERS.

LATE TURN IN.  Any assignment that is turned in after the due date can have a maximum score of 70.

Getting My Attention/ Getting Your Attention

There may be times when I may need to get everyone’s undivided attention so that I may give directions, explanations, answer group question, etc. or if the noise level gets too loud. When I need everyone to stop talking and pay attention, I will say “Your attention please,” and raise my hand.  When you see my hand raised, you will stop what you are doing, be quiet, and place all eyes on me.  Students will then raise their hand to show other students that I have called for everyone’s attention.

To get my attention:

    1. Raise your hand  and wait until called upon.
    2. DO NOT INTERRUPT or speak out…. Raise your hand!

Procedure for the end of class and class dismissal.

  1. There are no bells at the CTC
  2. Class is not over until you are dismissed by me.
  3. On most days, the last 10-20 minutes of class will be reserved for student questions, comments, and feedback. This time will be used to allow students to inquire about their grades, missed assignments, other concerns.  This is NOT your RIGHT!  All class time is class time.

When we have a visitor.

  1. Do not speak or interact with a visitor unless the visitor addresses you directly.

Restroom Policy

  1. Electronic devices will not leave the classroom. If you need to use the restroom, raise your hand with 1 finger to get my attention to let me know that you need to use the restroom.  You will be given a hall pass.  Your cell phone will NOT be returned to you unless the hall pass is returned.
  2. You will not be allowed to go to the restroom in the first 10 minutes or within the last 10 minutes of the close of class unless it is an emergency.

Mac’s “Big 6” and Other Rules

  1. Classroom Rules are posted in the classroom. These are the “cardinal” rules for Mr. Mac’s class.
    • When I am talking, you are NOT. No talking while I am talking!
    • Respect your classmates and teacher
    • Follow directions the first time they are given. Pay attention to detail
    • Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.
    • No swearing, teasing or name calling
    • Come to class with all of your supplies prepared to work.

Grooming Standards

    • Fingernails will be a single, solid color. Glitter and multi-colored fingernails will NOT be allowed when conduction patient care activities (labs).  Excessively long curved or pointed fingernails will NOT be worn.
    • Hair will be kept neat and cannot “hang from the head” when conducting patient care.
    • Students with excessive tattoos on arms will wear long sleeves to cover tattoos.
    • Hoodies, hats, head scarves (except for religious or medical purposes), or other non-medical head covering are not allowed anywhere in the Health Science Program.
    • Scrubs should be clean, neat and ironed every day of wear
    • Open toe shoes, sandals and flip flops are no allowed. Crocs ARE authorized for wear.

Consequences

Everything we do in life has consequences. The choices that YOU make will determine what happens to you in life.  This is what can happen to you if you choose to violate the classroom rules and the general rules for ethical behavior in healthcare.

1st Time:  Warning (Noted in your file)

2nd Time: Written record and/or call to your parent.

3rd Time: Referral to AP.

4th Time: Recommendation for removal from CTC Program*

*Depending of the nature of the offense, you may be directly removed from the course before going through all steps.

REMEMBER: The Career Technical Center is designed to provide you with a PROFESSIONAL work certification!  I expect students to behave like the mature and focused adults that you are.  If you cannot act in a respectful, obedient and constructive manner, I reserve the right to expel you from this course at ANY TIME!  Classroom disruption will NOT BE TOLERATED.
