Course Pre-requisites
Students are expected to have successfully completed Biology, Chemistry and one Health Science CTE credit. A valid social security number is required to register with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy & to apply to take the National Certification Exam. This course is restricted to grade 12.
Course Description
This course will provide an overview of the qualifications, operational guidelines, and job functions of a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Students will develop an understanding of pharmacology knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board National Exam. All students will have the opportunity to take the PTCB exam if pre-qualifications are met.
Student Learning Objectives
- To pursue a career in health care, students should know how to learn reason, think critically, make rational decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Students should understand that quality health care depends on the ability to work well with others.
- Upon completion of this course the student will demonstrate knowledge in all areas relating to the pharmacy. These will include infection control, safety and medical terminology.
- The student will also demonstrate knowledge of commonly prescribed medications, standard pharmacy policies, equipment, and techniques.
- Professional integrity in health care is dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are expected to understand their ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations, and the implications of their actions.

Grades
All assignments are due on or before the due date assigned in class or per Canvas. Assignments will be submitted on Canvas, the assignment is due on the due date assigned in Canvas. Students can still complete assignments if physically absent from school since assignments are on Canvas. Late assignments will receive a point penalty; this will vary per assignment. No assignment will be accepted after the last day of the six weeks grading period.
Grades will be entered as ALL WORK and will be weighted/counted as follows:
- Homework, Class Participation, Class Assignments: X1

Course Expectations
You are exploring a career in the health care industry. To be successful in this field you must demonstrate the utmost in professionalism, respect for others and teamwork. You will be dealing with people’s lives; education is what will give you the skills and knowledge to maintain a life. Those of us in the profession take this commitment very seriously and we expect the same from you. Any student who is disruptive or displays a blatant disregard for the expectations may be subject to disciplinary action and face possible removal from the course.

- Work diligently during class time, pay attention to detail, ask questions when needed, and be mindful of group work deadlines.
- Keep up with make-up work and communicate with the teacher concerning deadlines.
- Follow the instructions of the teacher at all times, especially during labs.
- Remain aware of upcoming due dates of assignments, projects or tests by paying attention to announcements in Canvas.
- Horseplay in class is strictly prohibited. You will be in a professional laboratory setting and must conduct yourself in a safe manner at all times.

- Use of technology will be for educational purposes; any other use will not be allowed without permission from your instructor.
Academic Dishonesty:
