Algebra 1 Syllabus and Procedures

Welcome to my math class. I will be your Algebra 1 teacher this semester/year. It is my goal to create the best environment possible to help all students be successful inside and outside of the classroom. As always, if there are any concerns and questions, you may always contact me by email (gkline@aisd.net) or the school phone (682-867-7100).

Grading Policy

The grade book for this class is updated numerous times each week. These grades are printed and posted on TEAMS which is available through the district website.

Daily Classwork Grade (70% of final grade)

Examinations (30% of final grade)

Students entering the classroom:

Enter quietly, prepared with materials, ready to work. Students are to work on the warm-up question as soon as they enter.

Dismissal:

Must be seated, quiet, and have a clean area. Not dismissed until the teacher gives permission.

Warm-ups

Students will be given one or more questions regarding the previous day’s homework and activities. Students may use any notes, completed homework, handouts, or textbooks to answer the questions. Approximately 5 minutes will be given. When finished, students are to set up their notebooks and sit quietly and wait for instructions.

Students who are tardy:

Students who are tardy to class will not receive the warm-up questions. These students must make up the questions at a later date and will not receive full credit.

Materials: Students should be prepared everyday with a pencil, eraser, and notebook. Textbooks and calculators can be found in the class. Under certain circumstances I will loan materials for a trade of collateral.

Students asking questions:

Students must raise hand and receive permission to speak while the teacher is lecturing, or while another student has the floor.

Students out of their seats: Students are to remain seated in their seats at all times unless special instructions are given. Only students needing tissue or the pencil sharpener may be unseated without permission.

Hallway expectations: Students will walk quietly and single file while going to lunch. If the line is not quiet or single file, all students will be sent back to the classroom to try it again at the expense of student lunch time.

Getting the class quiet: I will use the “High 5” method. When I say “High 5” and raise my hand, I expect all student voices to be off by the time I count down from 5 to 1.

Food/drink/candy/gum: Food, candy, gum, etc. is not permitted in my classroom. If I see it, I will take it. Water is the only beverage permitted as long as it has a lid.

Cell Phones: Cell phones are not permitted in my classroom. If I see it, I will take it. Phones picked up in this manner may be retrieved in the office. A $15 administrative fee may apply.

Procedures and consequences are subject to change at the teacher’s discretion. Not following these procedures will result in consequences at the teacher’s discretion. These consequences could include the following:

1st offense: Verbal warning/reminder

2nd offense: Loss of participation points for the day.

3rd Offense: Loss of privileges, seat movement, and/or dismissed from class.

4th offense: Communication with parents, and administration.
