Intro to Cosmetology

Course Description 

In Introduction to Cosmetology students explore various careers in the Cosmetology Industry. To prepare for success, students must have academic and technical knowledge and skill relative to the industry. Students acquire knowledge of TDLR Rules and Regulation.

Classroom Expectations:

  •   Be prepared and on time.
  •   Follow all of TDLR rules and regulations.
  •   No food or drinks in the classroom
  •   If class is missed, the student is responsible to see what work was missed.
  •   Keep up with assignments and due dates.
  •   Introduction to Cosmetology will be a canvas and Text Book course.
  •   Adhere to all Arlington ISD Dan Dipert Career & Technical Center and Arlington ISD Student Code of Conduct policies
  •   All students should be respectful to others and the surrounding environment.

 

Grading Policy: Test 40%, Quiz 20%, Classwork 40%

Make-Up Policy: See teacher, one-day extension given for each day missed.

Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty is defined by Arlington ISD as engaging alone or collaborating with others to take part in dishonest or deceitful activities such as lying, cheating, plagiarism, or stealing to gain an academic advantage in assignments, tasks or other school related activities.  A zero may be given for academic dishonesty on class assignments in addition to a parent/teacher conference.  Please refer to the AISD Student Code of Conduct for other possible corrective actions.

 Testing:

Student must take all quiz and test in person.

Required Supplies: Students are required to have their cosmetology a Binder, notebook and writing tools; such as pens and pencils daily! (NO RED PEN)

Uniform – (Student must dress in school appropriate uniforms. No belly tops, short shorts or tanks. No crocs SEE COSMO HANDBOOK)

Option – Students can wear CTC cosmetology t-shirts and jeans. Jeans must be dress code appropriate. (No holes)

5th Six Weeks- TDLR tools and implements

6th Six Weeks- Review On the Job/Salon Business

Prerequisite: Application and Instructor approval

  •   Have your devices up and ready to learn
  •   School appropriate uniform
  •   Always wear ID
  •   Have all school supplies daily    
  •   Place phones on silent before class starts     

Respectful:

  •   Use appropriate language
  •   Respond to others respectfully
  •   Give your full attention while there is a speaker      
  •   Respect other’s space
  •   Respect others creativity
  •   Use only your assigned tools and supplies 

Responsible:

  •   Attend all classes (virtual and in person) daily 
  •   ABSOLUTELY no food on line or in class/lab 
  •   Complete job duties DAILY

*All grades may be multiplied at the teacher's discretion. 

 

Make-Up policy:

 Students who have been absent for illness or any other reason have the responsibility to contact the teacher about any make-up work they need to do. Students will have one class day for each day missed plus one additional class day to make up missed assignments. The additional class day is to account for the possibility that the student may not have a class scheduled at the CTC the following day after their absence. Example: If a student is absent on Monday, he/she will have until Wednesday to get their missing work and then must have it turned in by Friday. Also, make up work modules may be assigned as needed. 

 

Retake Policy:

All grades assignments and quiz are final.

 

Special Materials/Requirements:

Students must have all classroom supplies daily.

Any Additional Time Commitments Outside the Normal School Day:

Students will have opportunities to make up modules throughout the year, and will be informed by instructors on the days available.  

 

Academic Dishonesty:

In the Student Code of Conduct, Academic Dishonesty is defined as a Group 2 Misbehavior.  The range of corrective actions include, but are not limited to a zero on class assignments.
