Course Description

In addition to early U.S. History, we will spend approximately 4 weeks on the Principles of Government, applying them to the U.S. Constitution, and the history behind the development and growth of our government.  Advanced U.S. History will increase the level of rigor within the content with an emphasis on writing, research, and presenting skills.

Late Work Policy

The Social Studies Department goal for all students is that no 0's are reflected in their grades.  It is very important that students' grades reflect the knowledge they have learned, which helps the teacher determine if extra support is needed in order for them to be successful. Therefore, students' parents will be contacted via email if assignments are not turned in by the due date.  Late work will receive a 10 point reduction for each week it is late.  Extensions with no grade reduction/penalty on assignments are provided with the approval of the teacher. All work must be turned in one week prior to the end of the six week period. Please know that I am always  willing to work with you to be successful.

Absence Policy

Students that are absent are responsible for requesting any missed assignments and will be given a day for each day they have missed to complete the assignment(s).  Please refer to the U.S. History website (listed above) to retrieve missing assignments. Please note that I am always willing to work with a student in regards to time with missing work due to an absence.  I understand how difficult it can be to make up work for several classes. It is important that the student makes arrangements with me upon their return to school in order to grant them an extension.

Positive Behavior Intervention System

Students are expected to follow all policies and procedures in class (in person and online), on school grounds, and transportation as noted in the student handbook and posted in classrooms.  Our goal is to ensure a safe and rich learning environment with mutual respect and positive behavior.  Failure to comply with the policies and procedures will be documented and parents will be notified of any actions taken.
