What is Credit By Exam?
Arlington ISD’s credit-by-exam (CBE) program, in accordance with state and district guidelines, allows students enrolled in an AISD school the opportunity to gain credit for a variety of courses.
Students may earn credit by exam for subjects in which they have had no prior instruction if the student:
- Scores a three or higher on a College Board advanced placement examination that has been approved by the school district board of trustees for the applicable course,
- Earns a scaled score of 50 or higher on an examination administered through the College-Level Examination Program and approved by the school district board of trustees for the applicable course, OR
- Scores an 80% or higher on a district-approved, criterion-referenced test.
Students may earn credit by exam for subjects in which they have had prior instruction if the student:
- Scores a 70% or higher on a district-approved, criterion-referenced test.

How do I sign up to take a CBE?
See your counselor to sign up to take the CBE. You and your counselor will fill out the one-page form. You will obtain a parent signature if you're a minor, and then you return the form to your counselor. Your counselor will then notify the counselor in charge of CBE's. You will receive a notification a few days before the test date to remind you of the upcoming CBE and to tell you where to report.
